Ridgecrest VEX Robotics Competition, April 2016

April 2016 – The Robotics for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) nonprofit held a Robotics Competition on Saturday, April 2, 2016 at Immanuel Christian School (ICS), Ridgecrest, CA. Three local schools Murray Middle School, ICS, and Burroughs High School participated in the end of robotics season tournament. Throughout the robotics season local teams placed in regional and state tournaments with one Burroughs High School team advancing to the U.S. Open Robotics Championship in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Robotics For STEM was founded in 2014 with the cooperation of Murray Middle School and Sierra Sands Unified School District to encourage Ridgecrest middle school students in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields. The program’s success is attributed to the sponsorship and involvement of the local community and the recognition and support from Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division (NAWCWD) China Lake. Robotics For STEM mentors and volunteers supporting the students consists of Electronics, Mechanical and Systems Engineers currently working or retired from NAWCWD, educators and parents.
